Programs in Health Care

  • Practical Nurse Diploma Start Dates +

International Students are welcome to apply to the January (Winter), May (Spring) and August (Fall) start dates for the Practical Nurse Diploma program.

  • Practical Nurse Diploma for Internationally Educated Nurses Program +

The structure of this program is a blend of part-time and full-time study and the length of the program is unique to each student, dependent on the results of the challenge examinations.  For these reasons, international students in this program are not eligible for Canada Immigration’s Off-Campus Work Permit program or Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. Therefore authorization to work would need to be obtained through an alternative Canadian Immigration Work permit.

  • Length of the Health Care Aide Certificate +

The full-time Health Care Aide Certificate is 16 weeks (4 months) in duration.  In order to qualify for Canada Immigration’s Off-Campus Work Permit or Post-Graduate Work Permit programs students must be enrolled in a full-time career program of at minimum 8 months in duration.

International students who complete the Health Care Aide Certificate are not eligible for the Off-Campus Work Permit or the Post-Graduate Work permit; therefore authorization to work would need to be obtained through an alternative Canadian Immigration Work permit. This can be very challenging.

Based on the new immigration regulations that became effective on June 1st 2014, you will be required a study permit to enroll in this short term program since it includes a work experience component as part of the program. Please review updates regarding the new regulations here.

  • Health Care Aide to Practical Nurse Bridging Program +

This program requires applicants to have a Health Care Aide Certificate that is recognized by the province as well as one year previous work experience. For students who have not completed these prerequisites, the full-time Practical Nurse Diploma program is the same duration of study.

  • Pharmacy Technician Diploma Admission Requirements +

As part of the admission process to this program students must successfully complete an on-campus math skills assessment and an on-campus keyboarding assessment.  These admission requirements must be completed before obtaining acceptance into the program, thus posing a challenge for international student applicants from outside of Canada.
