The annual International Forum is an exciting annual gathering organized by World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI). The sixth annual International Forum was held in Montreal, from January 20 to 21, 2017. The forum is an an annual event where the best ideas and practices for international development are shared. The Forum brings together government delegates, northern international cooperation organizations, southern civil society actors and representatives from the private sector, as well as youth, researchers and international development specialists. Participants gain a valuable opportunity to engage with a diverse set of experts on some of the most critical global issues. By generating fresh new perspectives and exploring innovative solutions, participants enhance their contribution and renew their commitment to a more equitable and sustainable world.

Bow Valley College was a sponsor of the event and had a booth at the forum to highlight our international programs. Chris Enns, International Development Officer in the International Education Department, was a presenter at the Forum. He spoke about the College’s recent certification as a UNEVOC Centre and our efforts to strengthen technical and vocational training around the world through the international UNEVOC network. The presentation generated a lot of interest from other colleges to seek out potential international partnerships with Bow Valley College.

This year's theme “Reaching the Tipping Point – How to Cultivate a Brighter Future” gave participants a chance to share a range of approaches and viewpoints, it also revealed a strong convergence of interests and efforts to find sustainable development solutions. The forum drew nearly 750 specialists, researchers, students, volunteers, government representatives and private sector actors involved in international development to the 2017 International Forum. More than twenty workshops set the stage for lively debates on current events and major issues in international development at this sixth annual event, jointly organized by CECI and WUSC.
